Creativity Matters

On March 10th, 2020, I taught an in-person workshop to a group of incredible creatives at SoHo House Chicago. In the last 15 minutes of a 90-minute workshop, something extraordinary happened. Mid-sentence, a part of me kept teaching, and another part had an experience of the future. I felt an energy surge and experienced "knowingness" about the year of Covid to come. I did not see a clear picture but instead processed a sense of grief, and I "knew" in an instant of the gravity of the situation.

I had to decide, on the spot, if I told people about it or not. It was not an easy decision; I knew telling them about what was coming was not helpful, but I also knew I couldn't stay quiet.

I told the audience that "something" was coming and that there would be challenging times ahead, significantly affecting the whole world. I said that the situation would be challenging and that it would be a time for all of us to be extraordinary.

I could have said many things, and many times I have wondered why I choose the word extraordinary, then it hit me as I was getting ready to teach May's Meditation Class on creativity.

For me, creativity is being extraordinary; creativity is the ability to innovate and bring into existence something it did not exist before. I was trying to convey that creativity and innovation would be the answer for the year of covid.

Creativity matters, and being creative is more than being artistic, to paint, make music, or design. I see creativity as much more than that. The creative spark is at the center of being alive, and every organism alive displays great creativity to survive and thrive.

Someone with great creativity thinks of new ways to solve a problem and displays an excellent ability to adjust to new situations. Creatives have an affinity for their own energy, often chasing it as an unseen possibility inside of them.

Creativity is effortless when you are a child or having fun, but it can be hard when you are under stress and have no time to relax and play.

How do we prepare ourselves for creativity? How do we focus our attention on it? How do we bring forth the creative state even when we don't feel like it? This is where meditation comes into play.

On May 3rd, I will teach a meditation class for creatives, focusing on your creative energy and endeavors.

This course is open to all, and Members receive a $100 discount. The first live class begins Monday, May 3rd, at 8:00 pm CST. Click here to signup.
